Green Bay Packers try out free agent Colt Lyerla

The Green Bay Packers invite undrafted free agent tight end Colt Lyerla to take part in their rookie orientation camp.

Undrafted free agent tight end Colt Lyerla has been invited to the Green Bay Packers' rookie orientation camp on a tryout basis.

Lyerla was not chosen in this year's Draft after a troubled final year in college that saw him leave the University of Oregon team before being arrested for possession of cocaine and attempting to flee the police.

However, he posted impressive figures at the scouting combine and Packers coach Mike McCarthy revealed that he was "excited" to see what he and the other 27 rookies involved in the camp could do.

"He's done things in his college career, and [we're] fully aware of everything that every prospect's done on and off the field," McCarthy told reporters.

"And with that we feel he's earned the opportunity as a tryout player to earn a spot to go to training camp. I'm excited to watch all these guys."

The Packers chose tight end Richard Rodgers in the third round of this year's Draft but are still looking for depth in the position due to the uncertainty surrounding the future of Jermichael Finley.
