Detroit Lions snap up running back Ameer Abdullah

Nebraska Cornhuskers running back Ameer Abdullah signs a rookie contract with the Detroit Lions.

The Detroit Lions have signed second-round running back Ameer Abdullah to a rookie contract.

Doubts emerged over the 21-year-old's size, but the Lions have taken a punt on him and expect him to share a high load in the 2015 season.

A buoyant Abdullah told reporters: "A lot of guys want to put me in the category of third-down back. For those who say that, I ask them to turn on my film".

Abdullah scored 19 touchdowns for the Nebraska Cornhuskers last season.
