Jim Schwartz: 'Signings aren't sign of panic'

Detroit Lions coach Jim Schwartz has insisted that the recent influx of signings at the club is not a reaction to poor pre-season performances.

All three signings were part of his struggling defense - tackle Justin Bannan, linebacker Rocky McIntosh and defensive back Rashean Mathis - but Schwartz said that he brought the players in because of their talent, not to make replacements.

"The only message is we are going to keep on trying to add good football players," the Detroit News quotes Schwartz as saying.

"It wasn't a reaction to anyone's play or anything else. It was more just the opportunity to get those guys. We are happy to have all of them."

Bannan has played 11 seasons in the NFL.
