Lions GM Mayhew: 'New deals in pipeline'

Detroit Lions general manager Martin Mayhew has revealed that there are plans in place to renew the contracts of some players, now that they have appointed a new head coach.

Jim Caldwell was announced as the new coach on Tuesday and with the future of Ndamukong Suh uncertain, Mayhew wants the club to now get down to contract business.

"We've held off on some discussions and I've had some agents called me already on some guys who are up but I said, 'We don't have a head coach right now,'" he told their official website. "We want to make sure we're doing things in tandem and lockstep and that we're collaborating on everything.

"I certainly have thoughts on a lot of our players, but I do want to involve our coaching staff and our coordinators, whoever they are, and our position coaches in all those kinds of decisions."

The Lions ended the season with a 7-9 record and did not manage to qualify for the playoffs.
