Peyton Manning calls make $28,400 for charity

Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning earned $24,800 (£15,097) for his Peyback Foundation charity courtesy of his 'Omaha' calls in last night's AFC championship game.

The money was raised after eight business agreed to donate a combined $800 (£487) for every time Manning made the call due to the free advertisement it provided the city in Nebraska of the same name.

Manning made the call 31 times during his side's 26-16 victory over the New England Patriots despite not knowing about the arrangement between the Omaha-based businesses.

"This has been terrific for us. Before Friday, we had calculated that news coverage of Omaha had generated the equivalent of about $10 million in advertising," David Brown, president and CEO of the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce, which headed the effort, told reporters.

The arrangement will continue for the Super Bowl, where the Broncos will face the Seattle Seahawks on February 2.
