Cam Newton discusses car accident

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton has described his ordeal after being involved in a car accident earlier this week.

Newton was taken to hospital as a precaution after the incident and it was revealed that he had suffered two fractures in his lower back.

"I'm looking at this truck and thinking someone's supposed to be dead. I couldn't stop smiling," Newton told reporters.

"I'm on somebody's fantasy team, and I think it's the man upstairs."

The Panthers star ended the media session by insisting that he was unsure on his timetable for a potential return to the lineup but he will miss Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
