Buffalo Bills quarterback EJ Manuel plans to carry on executing the plays that his coach has taught him as he looks to earn a starting place in the side.

Buffalo Bills quarterback EJ Manuel has set himself a target of simply executing his coach's orders as he looks to earn a place in the starting lineup.

Coach Doug Marrone revealed that he was "impressed" by Manuel during his side's 44-20 win over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, a match that saw the rookie play the entire first half.

However, Manuel is refusing to get carried away, instead choosing to focus solely on carrying out the plays that offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett has taught him.

"My main thing was I wanted to operate the offence like coach Hackett has taught us and get all the other guys in position," Manuel said.

"The veterans have done a great job of bringing me along and things like that. The main thing is just continuing to go out there and execute."

Manuel is currently in competition with Kevin Kolb for the starting quarterback jersey.
