Terrell Suggs signs four-year contract extension

Baltimore Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs agrees a four-year extension with the team that could see him end his career with them.

Baltimore Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs has signed a new four-year extension to his contract with the team.

Suggs was entering the final year of his deal with the Ravens and general manager Ozzie Newsome had previously been non-committal over his future.

However, the 31-year-old could now finish his career with the team that chose him in the first round of the 2003 Draft with the 10th overall pick.

Suggs will earn $21m (£12.6m) over the first three years of his contract, including $16m (£9.6m) guaranteed, while the new deal has also freed up $4m (£2.4m) in salary cap space for the Ravens.

The six-time Pro Bowler is the all-time franchise leader in sacks (94.5) and forced fumbles (29), and was named the NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2011.

He also helped the Ravens to Super Bowl success in 2012 having missed much of the regular season through injury, while last year he recorded nine sacks in his first eight games but managed just one in his final eight.
