Lawrence Okoye joins Arizona Cardinals practice squad

Former British Olympian Lawrence Okoye has been signed to the Arizona Cardinals' practice squad.

The 23-year-old was cut by the San Francisco 49ers last week and had a visit with the New England Patriots on Friday before joining up with his former team's NFC West rivals.

The new Cardinal confirmed the news on Twitter, writing: "Really excited to be joining @AZCardinals!! Big thank you to everyone that has supported and motivated throughout this journey!"

The defensive end made four tackles in three pre-season games with the 49ers but has yet to be involved in an NFL regular season game.

Okoye finished 12th in the discus final at the 2012 Olympics in London.
