The commute to work is something no British person looks forward to. This dedication to looking anywhere but at the crush of people can not only be awkward, but you would be missing the perfect opportunity for noticing people doing something strange. 3. Pick up the morning paper

4. Read or listen to music

Sometimes the classics are the best – if you want to amuse yourself, bring your iPod or a book. Just please don't be that person who wanders around attached to their tablet as they catch up on the latest episode of their favourite series. These people are a health hazard to the rest of us, simply from not being aware of their surroundings and actions.
