'80s Crossroads actress Charmian Abrahams dies at the age of 96 after being hit by a delivery van.

Former Crossroads actress Charmian Abrahams has died at the age of 96 after being hit by a delivery van.

The star appeared as Mavis Hooper in the iconic soap between 1981 and 1985 as part of a 50-year career in the industry which saw her work with the likes of Noel Coward, Ian McKellen and Albert Finney.

According to West Midlands Police, Abrahams died following a collision in Harborne, Birmingham just before midday last Monday.

A statement from her family said: "Charmian was a much-loved aunt and great-aunt and a dear friend to many. At 96 she was still full of life and energy and fiercely independent.

"We are devastated that her life has been brought to an end so suddenly and tragically, but we will treasure our memories of her zest for life and the many good times we shared with her."

A spokesman for Sainsbury's said: "An incident took place involving one of our drivers earlier this week.

"We are supporting the colleague involved in any way we can and helping the police with their investigation.

"Our thoughts are also with the woman's family at this sad and difficult time."
