Dame Mary Berry's Best Home Cook will not return for a new series, it has been confirmed.

The BBC has decided not to recommission Best Home Cook, the cookery competition series featuring Dame Mary Berry as a judge and Claudia Winkleman as host.

The show, which sought to find the UK's best amateur home cook, first aired in 2018 then returned for a second series in 2020, followed in early 2021 by a celebrity spinoff.

The programme has since remained in limbo, with reports earlier this year suggesting that the celeb version could return, but The Sun says that its fate has now been sealed.

A source told the newspaper: "This will be a big disappointment to Mary as this was a primetime alternative to the Bake Off which saw her take another high-profile role.

"But it's fair to say it never gained the same audience in a market which is already saturated with cookery programmes.

"Dame Mary remains a much loved figure among the public and is well respected among bosses at the Beeb, but this didn't turn out to be the right vehicle for her."

The news comes after the BBC announced a one-off festive special which will see Berry guide viewers on how to cook "a fool-proof Christmas dinner".
