Harry Potter actor Sir Michael Gambon dies in hospital at the age of 82.

Harry Potter actor Sir Michael Gambon has died in hospital at the age of 82.

The star - Dumbledore in the hugely-popular movie franchise - had been suffering from pneumonia.

A statement from his wife, Lady Gambon, and their son Fergus Gambon said: "We are devastated to announce the loss of Sir Michael Gambon.

"Beloved husband and father, Michael died peacefully in hospital with his wife Anne and son Fergus at his bedside, following a bout of pneumonia."

A three-time Olivier winner, Gambon had been in the industry for more than 60 years and was also known for The Singing Detective, Maigret and Fantastic Mr Fox.
