Prime Minister Rishi Sunak says that he is "very disappointed" with Matt Hancock's decision to take part in I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has said that he has been left "very disappointed" by Matt Hancock's decision to join the lineup of I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!

Last week the former health secretary jetted to Australia in order to take part in the ITV show, for which he is allegedly receiving a fee of around £400,000.

The move sparked outrage in parliament, and the Conservative Party were quick to withdraw the whip from Hancock, who serves as MP for the West Suffolk constituency.

"I think politics is a noble profession, at its best - it can and should be," Sunak told The Sun while en route to the COP27 summit in Egypt.

"But it's incumbent on politicians to earn people's respect and trust.

"They do that by working hard for their constituents, as the vast majority of MPs do. That is why I was very disappointed with Matt's decision.

"The vast majority of MPs are really hard-working - they got into it because they want to make a difference for their communities.

"Most MPs spend their time street by street, constituent by constituent, trying to make a difference, that's what my colleagues do.

"That's really special and why I was disappointed with what Matt did."

Hancock is expected to join the show as a late entrant, alongside comedian Seann Walsh, later this week.
