A Hollyoaks character suddenly departs the village in tonight's E4 first-look episode.

Hollyoaks star Bethannie Hare made a prompt exit from the show in tonight's first-look E4 episode, after almost two years playing Cher McQueen.

In emotional scenes, Cher told her family that she had decided to leave the village in order to connect with her mother following the death of dad Sylver (David Tag).

"Cher has been on such a journey and the audience have gone from hating her to loving her and seeing the soft side of her," Hare told the Daily Star.

"She knows she's got the McQueens so it's the right time for her to go and make amends with her mum. They ended on a really bad note and her mum left her in the village.

"With her dad passing away, she realises how short life really is. It was emotional filming the funeral as it was last scene with the McQueens."

Hollyoaks continues weeknights at 6.30pm on Channel 4 and 7pm on E4.
