ITV executives are reportedly "struggling" to find a new series producer for Coronation Street.

ITV is supposedly "struggling" to find a successor to Iain MacLeod as series producer of Coronation Street.

Earlier in the year the broadcaster promoted MacLeod, who has overseen Corrie since 2018, to a role that will see him also take overall responsibility for Emmerdale.

According to the Daily Mail, the pursuit for MacLeod's replacement is being hampered due to the fact that his wife, Verity MacLeod, is deputy series producer on the soap.

"ITV have had conversations with a number of television executives who are currently working on other serial dramas or have in the past been at the helm of big shows," a source told the newspaper.

"But no-one wants to do it. One of the things putting people off is the fact that you'd be answering to Iain while having his wife as your deputy.

"It's a 'MacLeod sandwich' that no-one wants to be in the middle of and it's now become even more of a headache for ITV."

Iain MacLeod has overseen more Corrie episodes as producer than any of his predecessors, with more than 1,500 to his credit to date.
