Gary Lineker is reportedly wanted by BT Sport to head up its football coverage next season.

The 62-year-old has been centre of the headlines for the last week after a controversial tweet in which he compared the government's policy on migration to Nazi Germany of the 1930s.

The BBC suspended him as host of last weekend's Match of the Day as a result, but the corporation has since backed down and reinstated him to his role.

Lineker previously juggled his BBC duties with hosting BT Sport's coverage of the Champions League between 2015 and 2021 and according to the Daily Mail, BT is now hoping to tempt him back for 2023-24.

The broadcaster is relaunching as TNT Sports in July and is supposedly keen for Lineker to not only resume his Champions League hosting duties but also present coverage of the Premier League game normally shown at 12.30pm on Saturdays.

The newspaper says that Lineker could be tempted by the proposals as his home is based close to TNT Sports' new studio in West London.

Having been with BT Sport since it launched a decade ago, Jake Humphrey currently serves as the broadcaster's primary football presenter.
