Discovery's on-demand service to rebrand as discovery+
Discovery announces plans to launch a new premium offering called discovery+ next month, with the offer of a free year's subscription for all Sky Q customers.

Discovery has announced that its on-demand service Dplay is to be rebranded as discovery+ and launch as a new premium offering from next month.

The new service will combine content from across the Discovery portfolio - including Discovery Channel, TLC, Animal Planet, Quest and Really - as well as discovery+ exclusives and the premiere of new shows ahead of linear transmission.

The launch slate includes Salvage Hunters: Design Classics, World's Greatest Cars and The Osbournes: Night Of Terror, while the service also promises to offer same-day release of signature US shows such as 90 Day Fiance and Gold Rush.

"We are unveiling discovery+ at a time when streaming captivating programmes is a source of joy for many in locked-down areas across the country, who may be socially distanced from friends and family or perhaps just looking for something new," said Clare Laycock, svp of lifestyle and entertainment at Discovery UK.

"At Discovery, we're extremely proud of our extensive portfolio of exclusive and original shows, and are inviting consumers to indulge their passions with discovery+, whether these lie in true crime and blue light shows or property and design.

"The platform will offer a no-holds-barred access to celebrities, relationships and extraordinary families, and we're excited by the prospect of having the best of real-life entertainment in one place!"

discovery+ will be available for a monthly fee of £4.99 or a limited-time annual fee of £29.99, while Sky Q customers will get the app for free for the first 12 months.
