Arsenal and England legend Tony Adams is confirmed as a participant on the new series of the BBC's Strictly Come Dancing.

Arsenal and England legend Tony Adams has been confirmed as a contestant on this year's Strictly Come Dancing.

The 55-year-old former centre-back - four-time top-flight winner and three-time FA Cup winner - will compete against the likes of Paralympic swimmer Ellie Simmonds, Bros singer Matt Goss and actress Kym Marsh in the new series of the hugely-popular ballroom dance show.

"To say I'm excited is an understatement," he said. "The lure of the sequins and the call of the salsa has me swapping my battered old football boots for a set of Strictly soft shoes.

"Am absolutely thrilled to be giving it my all on this year's 20th anniversary of Strictly Come Dancing. I can't wait to meet my partner - god help her - and start the dancing."

Since hanging up his boots in 2002, Adams has enjoyed a brief career as a manager and has also worked as a football pundit.

The new series of Strictly kicks off on BBC One next month.
