Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk teases the introduction of killer doll Young-hee's boyfriend.

Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk has teased the introduction of killer doll Young-hee's boyfriend in season two.

The sadistic Netflix drama's opening episode came with a shocking twist as Young-hee kickstarted the life-or-death competition with her killer 'red light, green light' game.

Earlier this week Netflix officially gave its own green light to a second season of the show, and in a statement alongside the announcement, Hwang said that the new episodes would feature a new character called 'Cheol-su'.

"It took 12 years to bring the first season of Squid Game to life last year," he said. "But it took 12 days for Squid Game to become the most popular Netflix series ever.

"As the writer, director and producer of Squid Game, a huge shout out to fans around the world. Thank you for watching and loving our show.

"And now, Gi-hun returns. The Front Man returns. Season 2 is coming.

"The man in the suit with ddakji might be back. You'll also be introduced to Young-hee's boyfriend, Cheol-su.

"Join us once more for a whole new round."

The new season is expected for release in late 2023 or early 2024.
