Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk confirms that the global phenomenon will return for a second season.

Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk has confirmed that the show will return for a second season in the future.

The twisted Korean drama series has become a worldwide smash in recent months, ranking as Netflix's most-watched series ever despite only being available for less than two months.

The show was originally crafted as a one-season idea but following the show's unprecedented success, Hwang has revealed that he is now thinking about the follow-up.

"There's been so much pressure, so much demand, and so much love for a second season," he told the AP. "So I almost feel like you leave us no choice. But I will say: there will indeed be a second season.

"It's in my head right now. I'm in the planning process currently. But I do think it's too early to say when and how that's going to happen."

Hwang also confirmed that Lee Jung-jae will return as Gi-hun for season two.
