Channel 4 to go behind the scenes with Southwark Council

A new Channel 4 series called Council House Britain will follow housing officers at Southwark Council in South-East London.

Channel 4 is to air a new documentary series following social housing workers at Southwark Council in South-East London.

The borough has a high proportion of social housing tenants, with around 40% of residents living in council-run accommodation, while the waiting list for property stands at 10,000.

Council House Britain will go behind the scenes with the council's housing officers as they deal with varying issues from tenants as well as problem properties.

"It's incredibly exciting that after two years of scoping and filming, we are about to share this documentary with the world," said Peter John, leader of Southwark Council.

"Council officers are often the unsung heroes of the public sector, but just as COVID-19 has revealed the important work our rubbish collectors and social care workers do, Council House Britain will show the country how passionate and committed our housing teams are.

"Welcome to Southwark – we hope you enjoy your visit."

The six-part series is due to air on Channel 4 later this year.
