Hamid Mohammad Soryan Reihanpour wins gold for Iran

Iran's Hamid Mohammad Soryan Reihanpour wins gold in the 55kg Greco-Roman wrestling final.

Iran's Hamid Mohammad Soryan Reihanpour was won a gold medal in the 55kg Greco-Roman wrestling final this afternoon.

In the best-of-three-rounds bout, the Iranian managed to beat Azerbaijan's Rovshan Bayramov in straight rounds, taking the first 2-0 before finishing the match off in the second with a 1-0 win.

The gold makes up for Soryan's early exit in Beijing four years ago, where he was touted as a favourite for the 55kg class, and also gives Iran their first ever gold in the sport.

Earlier in the day, Hungary's Peter Modos beat Haakan Erik Nyblom of Denmark 3-1 to claim the first bronze, while Russia's Mingiyan Semenov had a 3-1 victory over Republic of Korea's Gyujin Choi for the second.
