John Isner beats Mikhail Youzhny in straight sets to progress in US Open

John Isner defeats Mikhail Youzhny 6-3 6-4 6-4 in the second round of the US Open.

John Isner has progressed to the third round of the US Open after a 6-3 6-4 6-4 victory over Mikhail Youzhny.

The tall American broke Youzhny's serve in game six of the first set and, despite losing three set points, it was fourth time lucky as Isner took the first set.

Isner broke serve again in the second set, and saved a break point in the final game to double his lead.

The Ukrainian was broken in game three of the third set, and Isner had two chances to win the match in game nine. Youzhny held serve that time, but Isner won the next game to secure the victory.
