Andy Murray booked his spot in the fourth round of the US Open with a 7-6 5-7 6-2 6-3 victory over Italian Paolo Lorenzi in Saturday's third-round clash in New York.

Murray, who needed three hours and 17 minutes to overcame the Italian, will now face Bulgaria's Grigor Dimitrov for a spot in the quarter-finals of the competition.

Lorenzi served for both the first and second sets, but Murray broke back on both occasions - taking the first set on a tie-break, but ultimately giving away the second when serving at 5-6.

The Scot stepped on the gas at the start of the third, however, as he broke twice before holding to move 5-1 ahead and eventually serving it out to move into a 2-1 lead.

Lorenzi also gave away his first service game in the fourth and what proved final set as Murray comfortably won it 6-3 to join Friday's winners Kyle Edmund and Johanna Konta in the round of 16. Fellow Brit Dan Evans, however, failed to take a match point as he bowed out to Stanislas Wawrinka.
