Gilles Simon overcomes Tomas Berdych to reach Shanghai Masters semi-finals

Gilles Simon reaches the semi-finals of the Shanghai Masters by beating sixth seed Tomas Berdych 7-6[4] 4-6 6-0.

Gilles Simon has stunned sixth seed Tomas Berdych by securing a 7-6[4] 4-6 6-0 victory to book his place in the semi-finals of the Shanghai Masters.

The Frenchman struck early with a break point at the first time of asking, but Berdych managed to break back and eventually force a tiebreak, which Simon edged 7-4.

The second set was a tight affair as both competitors held strong on their serves, but Berdych was the first to find the breakthrough, which was all that was needed to draw level in the contest.

Despite appearing in a strong position from which to launch a comeback, Berdych crumbled in the third and final set as Simon won every game to earn his passage into the last four of the tournament.
