British number one Johanna Konta registers a straight-sets win over Hsieh Su-Wei to reach the third round of the Italian Open.

Johanna Konta has recorded another welcome win at the Italian Open, defeating Hsieh Su-Wei to progress through to the third round.

The British number one has endured a disappointing campaign but the 6-0 6-4 victory on Wednesday ensures that last year's ranking points in Rome have been successfully defended.

Hsieh defeated Konta in the first round of the 2017 French Open, but Konta required just 19 minutes to breeze through the opening set and a whitewash appeared a possibility when breaking at the start of the second.

However, the Taiwan representative struck straight back and although ultimately going 5-2 down, the qualifier broke for a second time to reduce Konta's advantage to one game.

The two-time Major semi-finalist responded, however, and served out to seal success in 65 minutes, which sets up a showdown with Roland Garros champion Jelena Ostapenko.
