Roger Federer breezes through to Indian Wells quarter-finals

World number two Roger Federer beats America's Jack Sock in straight sets to reach the quarter-finals of the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells.

Roger Federer has secured his place in the quarter-finals of the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells by beating Jack Sock in straight sets.

Federer, ranked 56 places above Sock in the world rankings, saw off his opponent 6-3 6-2.

The two players gave little away off their service games in the opening stages, although Sock had to save two break points in the fourth to keep the score level.

Sock struggled to keep up with Federer, though, as the Swiss player broke in the sixth and maintained his three-game advantage on his way to serving out the set.

Federer's dominance continued into the second set as he broke Sock twice before establishing a 4-0 lead. The world number two had the opportunity to make it 5-0, but Sock saved four break points before winning his first game of the set.

The American held serve again to make the score to 5-2, but Federer proved too strong on his own serve as he wrapped up proceedings with his first match point.
