Live Commentary: French Open – Day four as it happened

Sports Mole brings you live updates from day four of the French Open.

Good morning and welcome to Sports Mole's live coverage of day four of the 2012 French Open at Roland Garros.

Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray both secured their spots in round two with victory on Tuesday, while British number three Heather Watson and Maria Sharapova also advanced to the second round.

However, hotly-tipped Serena Williams was sensationally eliminated by Virginie Razzano in the biggest shock of the opening round.

We now enter round two, with Novak Djokovic, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Roger Federer all in action in the men's side of the draw.

Juan Martin del Potro and Juan Carlos Ferrero also take to the court today, while Victoria Azarenka, Venus Williams and Samantha Stosur are in action in the women's draw.

Note that play starts at 10.00am.

That's it, then. Play is suspended for the day at the French Open thanks to some pretty heavy rain descending on Paris. Andy Murray kicks things off for us tomorrow at 10am when he takes on Finland's Jarkko Nieminen.

Also in action in the men's draw are Rafael Nadal, David Ferrer and Janko Tipsarevic. Meanwhile, Maria Sharapova, Caroline Wozniacki and Petra Kvitova will all take to the court on the women's side.

On the men's side today, Novak Djokovic booked his place in round three thanks to a straight-sets triumph against Blaz Kavcic, and there were also wins for Roger Federer, Juan Martin del Potro and Gilles Simon...

Sam Stosur is through following her win over Irina Falconi, but Venus Williams is out of the tournament after a comprehensive defeat at the hands of world number three Agnieszka Radwanska.

World number one Victoria Azarenka eased into the third round with a straight-sets victory over Dinah Pfinzenmaier, while Marion Bartoli was sensationally beaten by Petra Martic...

19.13: And here's a quick recap of the action from day four of the French Open...

Goffin 3-6 7-6[2] 0-6 6-2 5-1 Clement; Troicki 2-6 6-3 Fognini; Stebe 2-6 6-4 1-1 Tsonga

19.07: Right, here are the scores in the matches before they were interrupted by the rain...

19.02: You have to feel sorry for Angelique Kerber and Olga Govortsova. No sooner had the pair stepped on court for their second-round match that they were ordered off because of the rain.

18.58: Oh dear. The rain starts to come down at Roland Garros and the umpire calls for play to be suspended on Court Suzanne Lenglen. Players on the other courts have also been asked to take cover.

18.54: SET! We're all square in the match between Viktor Troicki and Fabio Fognini after the Serbian clinches the second set 6-3.

18.50: Tsonga draws first blood in the third set as some instinctive reactions at the net give him a break to love.

Nicolas Mahut survives and early scare to defeat Martin Klizan in four sets. He joins fellow Frenchman Gilles Simon in the third round.

RESULT: Klizan 6-4 4-6 6-7[5] 3-6 Mahut

18.45: SET! Stebe levels the match at one set each after Tsonga plants a forehand into the net. The German is certainly in the ascendancy here. Could we have another upset on the cards?

18.38: Right, we will now turn our attention to Jo-Wilfried Tsonga's match against Cedrik-Marcel Stebe. France's own Tsonga took the first set 6-2 and it is now 5-4 to the German in the second. Tsonga to serve.

RESULT: Kubot 7-6[0] 6-2 7-6[4] Senna

18.35: That's quite sensational from Radwanska. A perfectly-weighted lob gives her match point before Williams puts a forehand long to end the match. Williams may have been well below par today, but Radwanska is definitely one to watch for the tournament.

RESULT: Radwanska 6-2 6-3 Williams

18.32: Unfortunately that's the end of the road for Alexa Glatch. The American came up against a fierce competitor in Flavia Pennetta, with the Italian winning 6-3 6-1.

18.31: It looks like Goffin and Clement will go into a fifth set. Clement takes the fourth 6-2.

18.30: Hold onto your horses, this one isn't over. A nervy looking Radwanska is broken for the first time in the match. It's now 5-3 to the Pole in the second.

18.26: To her credit Williams is still showing some fight out there. A ruthless forehand makes it 2-5. Radwanska will now serve for the match.

18.23: Radwanska moves to within a game of the third round as she brushes aside Williams with a love service game.

18.21: And Williams is on the board. A vicious volley at the net gives the American her first game of the set. Radwanska leads 4-1.

18.17: This match is all but over now. Radwanska is overwhelming Williams. It's now 4-0 in the second.

18.14: Radwanska breaks again! It's sad to see from Venus Williams's point of view. She's had plenty of health problems this past year and it seems to have affected her game quite dramatically. She's now a set and 0-3 down.

18.09: Williams sends a forehand long as Radwanska holds serve. The Pole leads 2-0 now in the second.

18.07: The magnificently monikered Alexa Glatch has just lost the first set of her match with Flavia Pennetta 6-3.

18.06: Radwanska starts the second set in devastating fashion as she breaks to love in Williams's opening service game.

18.04: Elsewhere, Mahut is now 2-1 ahead in his match against Klizan. It took a 7-5 triumph in the tie-break for the Frenchman to edge in front.

18.02: SET! And with relative ease Agnieszka Radwanska takes the opening set 6-2. It took the woorld number three just 28 minutes to land the first blow against Williams.

Right, that's me for now. I will be passing you over to my wonderful colleague Jack Prescott for the remainder of the action. See you tomorrow bright and early!

17.59: Williams holds serve to extend the set. The Pole, however, will serve for a one-set lead.

17.10: During his junior career, Baker beat the likes of Tsonga and Marcos Baghdatis, but his injuries meant that he was restricted to a career in teaching. It doesn't matter what happens in this match - the American has put himself back on the map.

17.07: Suddenly it's all Simon as the Frenchman moves 4-0 ahead of Baker in the fifth.

16.55: A word from Miles Maclagan, Andy Murray's former coach, on BBC: "You know, you do your research for these commentaries and have a look over a player's career and results and for a few years Baker just disappears entirely. Couple more results - Seppi 5-7 6-2 2-6 6-1 6-2 and Devilder 7-6 6-4 6-2 Berrer.

Right, that's me for now, I will be passing you over to my wonderfully charming colleague Liam Apicella. See you in an hour!

13.58: So there we have it, Federer has booked his place in round three with victory over the gutsy Ungar. The Romanian will be proud of his showing, but Federer proved miles too strong.

13.20: Two match points have come and gone as Ungur levels it at 6-6 in the tie-break.
