Fabio Fognini overcomes Jarkko Nieminen in four sets in Australian Open

Fabio Fognini beats Jarkko Nieminen in four sets to reach the third round of the Australian Open.

Fabio Fognini has reached the third round of the Australian Open after battling through to a 7-5 6-4 3-6 6-2 victory over Jarkko Nieminen.

It was a close contest in the first set, but Fognini's 18 winners put him on top, while Nieminen could only grab one break point out of four opportunities on Court Three in Melbourne.

After taking the first set, the Italian managed to dominate by grabbing a vital break and keeping his opponent on the backfoot in the second set.

By relinquishing two break points, Nieminen had it all to do in the third set, but he managed to secure five winners and keep hold of his service games, despite being tested.

After grabbing a break point and taking the third set, Fognini responded in the fourth by scoring two aces and a break to take advantage of the contest and see out the match for a place in the next round.
