Great Britain's Duncan Scott has finished in fifth position in the men's 100m freestyle final at the Olympic Games.

The 19-year-old was considered one of the outsiders for a medal in a high-quality field but the Scot performed superbly to finish just two places off a medal.

Canada's Santo Condorelli set a blistering pace and was only 0.05 seconds below the world record at the halfway stage but he eventually finished in fourth spot after being chased down in the final 25 metres.

Australia's Kyle Chambers - at just 18 years of age - was the surprise winner, with Belgium's Peter Timmers claiming silver ahead of the USA's Nathan Adrian.
