Cate, Bronte Campbell impress in 100m freestyle semi-finals

Australia's Cate Campbell and Bronte Campbell ease into the 100m freestyle final at the World Championships in Kazan, while USA's Missy Franklin scrapes through.

Australia's Cate Campbell and Bronte Campbell have eased their way into tomorrow's 100m freestyle final at the World Championships in Kazan.

In the first semi-final, after the turn, Cate Campbell surged ahead and was almost a body clear of the rest of the field to touch the wall first in 52.84s.

The USA's Missy Franklin, who won six world golds in Barcelona 2013, finished further down the field in fourth after completing the race in 53.92s, which was enough to scrape into the final.

In the second semi-final, Bronte Campbell followed her sister's lead by edging ahead at the start of the final 50m, but it was Sweden's Sarah Sjostrom who finished first in 52.78s.
