Defending champion Nick Matthew loses British Grand Prix final

England's Nick Matthew loses his British Grand Prix title after suffering defeat to Egypt's Mohamed Elshorbagy in the final.

England's Nick Matthew has failed to retain his British Grand Prix title after losing to Egypt's Mohamed Elshorbagy in the final in Manchester.

The 35-year-old suffered a 11-7 12-10 9-11 11-6 defeat to Elshorbagy, who is currently ranked as world number one.

"I came out fighting for each point and I'm glad it turned out to be a great match and a great battle," BBC Sport quotes Elshorbagy as saying.

Elshorbagy, who lives in Bristol, won the British Open title in May.
