South African cricket has established yet another franchise tournament, this time a more professional step towards league cricket from Cricket South Africa (CSA). CSA formally announced the tournament in 2022 and announced an expected time frame of the league in early 2023. SA20 League is the 3rd league established under the management of Cricket South Africa.
This time the formula is picked up from the best franchise tournament in the world Indian Premier League (IPL). Hence, there is a strong chance that it will bring success. Betway is the main sponsor of the SA20 League.
The tournament will start on January 10, 2023, and the final is scheduled on February 11, 2023.

CSA could not finalize a deal resulting in a postponement of the cricket league in 2017. The league was repackaged with the name Mzansi Super League in June 2018. In the first tournament, Cricket South Africa owned, six teams participated. MSL did not find much attraction and lasted only two seasons. The 2020 and 2021 seasons were cancelled because of Covid-19 Pandemic.
South Africa announced Betway SA20 League in 2022 under a newly established entity African Cricket Development (Pty) Limited (ACD). Cricket South Africa has the major share in its ownership with 50% of the total share. The broadcaster Supersport is the 2nd biggest owner with a 30 percent share. A former Indian Premier League COO, Sundar Raman, is the 3rd owner with the remaining 20% shares. The inclusion of Raman brings quite a guarantee to SA20 League.

Pattern of the SA20 League
