Non-league Thurrock FC relegated after failing to pay £16 fine

Non-league Thurrock FC are relegated after failing to pay a fine of £16 for fielding an ineligible player.

Thurrock FC have been relegated from the Isthmian Premier Division after failing to pay a fine of just £16.

The non-league club were penalised over their decision to field striker Joel Barnett, who was banned at the time but failed to inform the team.

Barnett was ordered to hand £16 to the West Riding FA after his former club Wilton FC entered administration, but they did not make the payment.

Thurrock had relegation enforced on them after being found guilty of breaching FA regulations over the paltry sum, but club owner Tommy South has vowed to fight against the decision.

However, South has also pledged to sell the club regardless of the outcome as the experience has left him no longer wishing to be involved in football.
