Gavin Kirkham is released on bail until later in November after being arrested on suspicion of making a racist gesture at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.

Gavin Kirkham has been arrested on suspicion of making a racist gesture during Chelsea's League Cup fourth-round tie against Manchester United at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.

Pictures taken during the match showed the 28-year-old making a 'monkey' gesture supposedly aimed at United striker Danny Welbeck.

Kirkham was arrested on Monday after attending a West London police station by appointment.

"Officers investigating a complaint regarding alleged racist behaviour at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday have arrested a man," the Daily Mail quotes a Scotland Yard spokesman as saying.

"The 28-year-old man was arrested this afternoon, Monday, after attending a West London police station by appointment.

"He was arrested on suspicion of a racially aggravated Section 4A Public Order Act offence and currently remains in custody at the west London police station. Enquires continue."

Kirkham was released later on Monday on bail until later in November.
