George Floyd death

Protestors march in Manhattan on May 31, 2020 following the death of George Floyd

The death of George Floyd in the United States has sparked protests and demonstrations throughout the world.

Floyd, who was an unarmed black man, died while in police custody in Minneapolis, with footage showing white officer Derek Chauvin kneeling on Floyd's neck for almost nine minutes while he pleaded for breath.

The incident has thrust the Black Lives Matter movement back into public consciousness, with leading figures from the world of sport and entertainment showing solidarity.

Floyd's death is the latest in a long line of cases where unarmed African-Americans have been killed at the hands of police.
