Collin Morikawa squanders a five-shot lead and a chance to become world number one to allow Viktor Hovland to win the Hero World Challenge.

Viktor Hovland has won the Hero World Challenge, capitalising on a disappointing day for previous leader Collin Morikawa.

Holding a five-shot lead and with an opportunity to become world number one for the first time, Morikawa was expected to breeze to victory in the Bahamas.

However, two double-bogeys on the front nine put paid to the American's challenge, allowing Hovland to take full advantage with a blistering final 12 holes.

The Norwegian recorded five birdies and two eagles, giving him the cushion of being able to close with two bogeys and still win the tournament by one shot.

Like Hovland, Scottie Scheffler shot a final-round 66 to claim second spot ahead of Sam Burns and Patrick Reed who finished in a share of third.

Morikawa ultimately ended the competition in a tie for fifth alongside Justin Thomas, with English duo Tyrrell Hatton and Justin Rose finishing in ninth position.
