Massimiliano Allegri reveals that Real Madrid approached him about the manager's job before he returned to Juventus earlier in the summer.

Massimiliano Allegri has confirmed that he was approached for the Real Madrid job before returning to the hotseat at Juventus.

Los Blancos parted ways with Zinedine Zidane for the second time at the end of the 2020-21 season, and a host of names were linked with the role in the Spanish capital.

Carlo Ancelotti ultimately took control of the reins in Madrid after leaving his post at Everton, but Allegri has thanked Real Madrid president Florentino Perez for approaching him over the job.

Speaking to reporters during a Juventus press conference, Allegri said: "I have to thank Real Madrid and the president for the opportunity he gave me [to coach Real Madrid].

"Then I thought about it and chose Juventus. It was a gesture of love for a club that gave me a lot and who I enjoy coaching."

Allegri returned to Juventus after scooping five Serie A titles and four Coppa Italia crowns between 2014 and 2019, and he reportedly turned down another approach from Tottenham Hotspur to return to Turin.
