The men's quad rowing team end a disappointing day for Team GB with a silver medal.

Team GB have claimed a silver medal in the men's quad sculls on what was an otherwise-disappointing day of rowing competition in Tokyo.

The quartet - Harry Leask, Angus Groom, Tom Barras and Jack Beaumont - had to come through the repechage to book their place in the final and found themselves with an unlikely lead for the majority of the race.

The Netherlands were waiting to pounce, however, and made their move just before the final 500m as GB became embroiled in a topsy-turvy battle for silver and bronze with Australia and Poland.

GB eventually celebrated a silver medal, with the Aussies taking bronze, to cap off a day of much disappointment that included successive fourth-place finishes and an utter disaster in the men's four.

In that race the Brits had appeared to be locked on for the silver - with the possibility of the gold - but suffered a catastrophic steering error in the final straight that almost saw them embarrassingly collide with the Italians in the next lane.

The rowing competition continues on Thursday with another four medals on offer.
