Caterham F1 team ask fans to donate £2.35m so they can race in Abu Dhabi

Caterham set up a scheme calling for fans to donate £2.35m so that they can race in the final Grand Prix of the season in Abu Dhabi.

Caterham Formula 1 team have set up a Crowdfunding page to encourage fans to donate money so that the cash-strapped outfit can compete in the final race of the calendar in Abu Dhabi.

The team missed the US Grand Prix and will be absent from this Sunday's Brazilian Grand Prix after entering administration last month.

Caterham, who launched the project today, need to raise £2.35m before next Friday.

Administrator Finbarr O'Connell said: "We are confident the team showing the world that it can race again will lead to a bright future. We are working non-stop to get the team back racing, initially in Abu Dhabi. But hopefully that will be just a stepping stone to get it back racing on a permanent basis, under new ownership."

Caterham have received more than £100,000 so far.
