Toronto FC fight back to beat Vancouver Whitecaps

Jozy Altidore scores twice on debut as Toronto FC come from behind to beat Vancouver Whitecaps in their opening game of the new MLS season.

Jozy Altidore's brace ensured that Toronto FC fought back from a goal down to beat Vancouver Whitecaps at BC Place.

The hosts got off to a bright start when Pa Modou Kah set up Raul Rivero on 19 minutes and the young Uruguayan forward duly fired the ball beyond Joe Bendik.

Toronto responded well and were level just after the half-hour mark when ex-Juventus forward Sebastian Giovinco teed up fellow new signing Altidore for the former Sunderland and Hull City frontman to open his account with a crisp finish past David Ousted.

Vancouver then fell behind in the 59th minute when build-up play from Justin Morrow and French midfielder Benoit Cheyrou presented Robbie Findley with the chance to score and the American forward beat the Whitecaps keeper.

Giovinco almost scored his first MLS goal when Altidore turned provider for the Italian international, but Ousted was able to deny the 28-year-old attacker.

Toronto made sure of victory in their opening game with Altidore's stoppage-time penalty, following Kah's challenge on the American international.
