Manchester United are reportedly the favourites to sign Fred after Manchester City pull out of the race.

Manchester City have reportedly ended their interest in Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred.

According to the Manchester Evening News, the Sky Blues' local rivals Manchester United have moved into pole position to sign the Brazilian after Pep Guardiola's side dropped out of the race.

United are said to be seeking two midfield acquisitions this summer, with Michael Carrick due to retire and Marouane Fellaini expected to leave Old Trafford.

The Red Devils have reportedly sent scouts to watch Fred in action and received positive feedback about the player.

City, meanwhile, are believed to have turned their attention to Napoli midfielder Jorginho, who is also a Brazil international.
