Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld casts doubt over his future at the club by insisting that he is "not thinking" about signing a new contract.

Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld has insisted that he is "not thinking" about signing a new contract with the club at the moment.

Alderweireld's current deal expires at the end of this season, leading to intense speculation over his future in North London during the summer with Manchester United heavily linked with a move for the Belgian.

Spurs do have the option to trigger a 12-month extension in the contract which would make Alderweireld available for just £25m during a two-week spell the following summer, but the club are still understood to be hopeful of agreeing fresh terms before that.

The £25m fee would represent a major saving on Tottenham's £65m asking price, but Alderweireld is not considering an extension at this time.

"Honestly, I'm not thinking about it at the moment. I feel good and I'm playing so I'm happy. We'll see what happens," the 29-year-old is quoted as saying by The Mirror.

Alderweireld has made eight appearances for Spurs across all competitions so far this season.
