How Manchester United could line up against Manchester City

Sports Mole looks at how Manchester United could line up for Wednesday's crucial derby with Manchester City at Old Trafford.

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has demanded a response from his side when they welcome local rivals Manchester City to Old Trafford for a mouth-watering derby on Wednesday night.

The Red Devils turned in a shambolic display en route to a 4-0 humiliation at the hands of Everton on Sunday - a sixth defeat in their last eight matches and one which leaves them playing catch-up in the top-four race.

Wednesday's derby against a Man City side that also need a win to retain control of the Premier League title race looks to be a daunting prospect, then, but it may also be exactly the type of fixture they need to jolt them back into life.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how the hosts could line up for the crucial midweek showdown.

Solskjaer made no secret of his unhappiness at United's performance against Everton on Sunday, and that could lead to changes in midweek as he tries to turn his side's poor form around.

Nemanja Matic, Fred and Romelu Lukaku were among the players to come in for criticism at Goodison Park, and all three could miss out for this match as a result.

Scott McTominay has been trusted in big games for United recently and is pushing for a recall, while Ander Herrera will undergo a late fitness test and may be thrown straight back into the starting XI if he passes it.

United also have Luke Shaw back available after suspension, which could see Diogo Dalot switch over to right-back and Victor Lindelof move central to cover for Phil Jones, who picked up a knock against Everton.

Jesse Lingard is another who could come into the team, while Juan Mata and Alexis Sanchez provide further attacking options should Solskjaer want to shake things up even more in the final third.
