Danny Murphy insists that it is possible Jose Mourinho could replace Marco Silva as Everton manager at some point in the future.

Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy has insisted that Marco Silva could be replaced by compatriot Jose Mourinho at Everton.

Silva is under growing pressure at Goodison Park just seven months into the job following a run of poor results.

Everton have lost five of their last six matches to slip down to ninth in the Premier League, having played a game more than the sides around them, on top of exiting the FA Cup to second-tier side Millwall.

With the 41-year-old seemingly on the brink of being sacked by Toffees chiefs, pundit Murphy says that it is not far-fetched to link Mourinho with the position, although he expects Silva to remain in place for the time being.

"I don't think it's that crazy a thought due to the financial clout they've got," he told talkSPORT. "I think it's a delicate one when you start at Everton you want to give a manager a chance.

"I don't know if all Evertonians would go for that as he is a certain type, Mourinho is very Marmite and could be an expensive risk.

"He has won stuff, he has got good contacts with agents and players, but I think maybe not yet.

"It's one of those where it could happen down the line, I know there's always a risk he could take another job but yeah I don't think it's crazy. If Everton are looking bigger and want to compete why not get a manager who has competed."

Mourinho has been out of work since being sacked by Manchester United in December.
