Victorious Manchester United youngsters exit UEFA Youth League

Manchester United's Under-19s beat Wolfsburg 2-0 in Germany, but it is not enough for them to advance beyond the group stages of the UEFA Youth League.

Manchester United's Under-19s have been knocked out of the UEFA Youth League this afternoon, despite recording a 2-0 victory away in Wolfsburg.

The young Red Devils, who are managed by former United midfielder Nicky Butt, went into the final group clash with the knowledge that they must win in Germany and hope that PSV Eindhoven slip up at home to CSKA Moscow in order to advance to the knockout stages.

While United kept up their end of the bargain, PSV's 2-1 win over their Russian counterparts meant that it is they that progress through instead of the English club.

United broke the deadlock two minutes before the break when defender Axel Tuanzebe got in front of his marker to turn in Callum Gribbin's corner from close range.

Their lead was then doubled eight minutes after the restart thanks to Nigerian midfielder Tosin Kehinde, who slotted in after Marcus Rashford and drove into the Wolfsburg penalty area.

Rashford had a chance to make the scoreline even more convincing in the closing stages, but his effort from a tight angle was turned away by Wolfsburg goalkeeper Phillip Menzel.

Tonight the United senior side will face Wolfsburg in the Volkswagen Arena, where they must win to guarantee their place in the knockout stages of the Champions League.
