Scott McTominay has spoken effusively about Jose Mourinho and revealed that he remains in contact with the former Manchester United manager.

The Portuguese handed McTominay his senior debut against Arsenal in May 2017 and often started the midfielder in important games such as United's 0-0 draw with Sevilla in the Champions League.

However, Mourinho was dismissed by the club in December 2018 and has been out of work since, with reports suggesting that he is waiting for a return to the Premier League.

Speaking to Sky Sports News about his relationship with the 55-year-old, McTominay said: "I don't want to speak too much about previous managers, but Jose's very special to me.

"He still keeps in contact with me now and keeps in touch with me after games and different things like that. So he'll always have a special place in mine and my family's heart because he was the one who brought you here, he was the one who trusted you, he's the one who had belief in you.

"I owe a tremendous amount of credit to him, because if it wasn't for him, I might not necessarily be sat in this seat."

The Scotland international remains an important part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's setup at Old Trafford, making nine appearances in all competitions so far this term.
