Petr Cech: 'Manchester United are title contenders'

Manchester United are Premier League title contenders this season despite a slow start, according to Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech.

Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech has insisted that Manchester United are still capable of winning the Premier League title this season, despite a stuttering start to the 2016-17 campaign.

The Red Devils won their first three league matches this season, but have recorded just one victory in their last six to drop into seventh position in the table - six points off the leaders Manchester City.

Cech, however, has backed his former manager Jose Mourinho to oversee a title challenge from the Red Devils once the Portuguese has settled into life at Old Trafford.

"I still count them as a title contender, even if they are a little behind now, because it is a long-term competition and I know the manager very well," Cech told talkSPORT.

"He will do everything to make sure, if they can, that they can close the gap and as their opponent we need to make sure we don't give them the chance. He spent a lot of money [in the summer]. They bought the players he wanted so it is how well they find a way to compete and put it on the pitch."

Man United will look to return to winning ways in the league when they welcome Burnley on Saturday afternoon.
