Barcelona presidential candidate promises signing of three "superstars"

Barcelona presidential candidate Toni Freixa has revealed that he has reached an agreement with an investor to contribute over £200m to recruit new signings for the club.

The Catalan club's presidential election is set to take place on March 7, with Freixa one of the leading contenders to replace Josep Maria Bartomeu, who resigned in October last year.

Freixa is keen to back current boss Ronald Koeman and invest heavily next summer if he is voted in as president and has also suggested which areas the Spanish giants are looking to strengthen.

"We have been working for some time now and we can say that we have reached an agreement of intent with an investor who will contribute €250m for Barcelona Corporate," Freixa told RAC1.

"Although it will first have to go through the Assembly, we will have the funds for the economic situation to improve so that we can make sporting decisions. In 2021-22 we will incorporate three superstars, two in attack and one in defence."

Freixa was also asked if Erling Braut Haaland or Kylian Mbappe could be presented at the Camp Nou, which he said is "absolutely possible" as he hopes to "bring in difference-making players".

As well as preparing big-money transfers, Barcelona have also been linked with several top talents out of contract in June, including Manchester City pair Sergio Aguero and Eric Garcia as well as Dutch duo Memphis Depay and Georginio Wijnaldum.
